Research Experience

7/96-6/98 Plastic Surgery Resident, Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery, NYU Medical Center and Bellevue Hospital Center.

Developed an in vitro tri-laminar human cell culture system to study cranial suture fusion.  Examined various growth factors to promote/inhibit cranial suture fusion.

Investigations of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV-1) and its effects on the central nervous system.  Development and characterization of human fetal glial cell lines.  Elucidated neurodevelopmental pathways for central nervous system cells.

9/84-6/85 Research Assistant, Stanford University Medical Center, Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases.  Projects included developing a recombinant vaccine for Hepatitis B, detection assay for Hepatitis C, and developing a continuous cell line for the production of  HIV.

6/82-6/84 Undergraduate Researcher, Stanford University Medical Center, Department of Pathology.  Recombinant DNA research on gene expression and deletion.  Devised a technique for diagnosis of B-cell lymphoma using immunoglobulin gene rearrangements.  Work involved gel electrophoresis, Southern blot hybridization, Ig probe construction, immunofluorescent staining, and tissue culture.
